About the candidates:

Kristen Brown is the mayor of Capitola, where she has served two consecutive terms on the city council dais. Professionally, Brown works as vice president of governmental relations for the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. Through her role on Capitola City Council, she also sits as a director for the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments and is a committee members on the California League of Cities. She previously worked as a congressional aide for Reps. Sam Farr and Jimmy Panetta.

Kim De Serpa has served as a trustee for the Pajaro Valley Unified School District for over a decade, where she helped develop the first playground in the county for children with disabilities. De Serpa has a long career in social work and healthcare, and she currently works as the social services manager at the Salinas Valley Health Medical Center. In 2021, De Serpa was named Woman of the Year by the Watsonville International Women’s Day Coalition.
